Military Recruiters Win Campus Battle
This was sort of a no-brainer, but the military won its case over recruiters' access to college campuses when the school takes federal money. It was a little surprising that the ruling was unanimous.
"A military recruiter's mere presence on campus does not violate a law school's right to associate, regardless of how repugnant the law school considers the recruiter's message," Chief Justice John Roberts wrote. Will this improve military recruiting? No. Anyone smart enough to get into law school, or even college, can get all the information they want by picking up a phone or surfing the web. And do you really think all those professors are going to stop talking down the military and the people that join? So, though it was but a war of principle, a victory is still a victory.
